SIPA “the Belt and Road” research team visited Bulgaria's top legislature and prestigious university

On the early morning of August 1st, 2019, the Belt and Road project team from SIPA under the global challenge program of SJTU set off from Shanghai Pudong International airport and arrived in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, at noon of August 1, 2019, officially beginning their practical journey.

The first stop of the research team was to visit the National Assembly of Bulgaria. The National Assembly, founded in 1879, is Bulgaria's highest national legislature since its liberation from Ottoman Turkish rule. One of the staffs leaded the team to visit the parliament hall, parliamentarian lounge, media studios and other important working spaces. During the visit, the staff explained about the parliament election system, political party, voting system. By this process, the team understood more about western parliamentary system characteristics and the characteristics of Bulgarian national parliamentary proceedings system.

In the second stop of the Bulgarian trip, Dr. Antonina Habova, the associate professor of the department of International Relations, met the research team and had a discussion at the Bulgarian Center of SJTU. At the talk, Dr.Habova, on behalf of the department of International Relations of The University of Bulgaria and the University of World Economics, first of all welcomed the research team from SJTU to Bulgaria for a field visit. She said that the "Belt and Road" initiative not only promotes the political and economic cooperation between the two countries, but also plays an important role in promoting connectivity and integrated exchanges between universities of the two countries. During the meeting, teachers from both sides discussed a number of cooperative projects such as summer school and exchanged views on further exchanges and cooperation in the future. After the meeting, Zuo Yana and Huang Ping, on behalf of the research team, presented associate professor Habova with souvenirs from SJTU and took a photo together.

Afterwards, the research team went to The University of Sofia for a visit, which located in the center of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. The University of Sofia boasts rich historical background and beautiful campus scenery, with long architecture and rich humanistic feelings. Led by the school staff, the team visited several places. Such as student activity center, the international exchange center, the auditorium and the school's history museum. The members were attracted by the unique cultural charm of The University of Sofia.

“The Belt and Road in central and eastern Europe practical research” team from the SIPA, had Zuo Yana and Huang Ping as advisors. There were total eight students from SIPA and foreign languages college of the each grade. They formed a perfect team with their solid professional knowledge, reasonable age structure, and by their experience. The team will be in Bulgaria and Hungary for a 10 days field trip. Visitations to academic institutions, government departments and enterprises will be held. By this, the team will understand more about the initiative of “the Belt and Road” in the area of central and eastern Europe. Moreover, they will get to know about China's national image in central and eastern Europe, and also the development of enterprises in central and eastern Europe, as well as a series of important issues, such as China-Hungary relations.
