The Fifth Yale-SJTU Bilateral Forum on Global Public Health Policy Held in Shanghai

The Fifth Yale-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Bilateral Forum on Global Public Health Policy took place December 11, 2022 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and included Yale participants by videoconference. The forum was jointly organized by the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH), the Yale-SJTU Joint Center for Health Policy, and School of International and Public Affairs, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Paul Cleary, the Anna M.R. Lauder Professor of Health Policy at YSPH and Director of SJTU-Yale Joint Center for Health Policy delivered a keynote address on “Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems and Its Utilization Among U.S. Hospitals.” Zhao Hongyu, Chair of the YSPH Department of Biostatistics, also delivered a keynote address on “Leveraging Data for Precision Medicine.” In addition, Xi Chen, associate professor of health policy at YSPH and faculty fellow at the Yale Institution for Social and Policy Studies, participated in a panel on “Applications of Big Data Analytics in Public Health and Preventive Care.”

 

Forum participants also included Professor Wu Jiannan, Dean of School of International and Public Affairs, SJTU, and Zhao Dandan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Development Center of Shanghai Shenkang Hospital.

 

A theme of the discussions was the consensus that data and information technology are of great significance for the prevention and control of major public health emergencies. Participants also noted the importance of countries around the world working together to promote technological progress for optimization of hospital management.
