SJTU-SIPA Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

On the morning of October 21, 2023, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University celebrated its 20th anniversary at Wen Zhi Hall, Xuhui Campus. The milestone event was attended by over 700 individuals, encompassing experts and scholars from more than 60 universities, government and industry representatives, alumni, and the school community, marking two decades of educational excellence and growth.
The celebration was hosted by Xiao Yi ZHANG, the Party Secretary of the School of International and Public Affairs. Numerous domestic and international prestigious academic institutions and organizations sent congratulatory messages and gifts, including nearly 50 universities and research institutions such as the Political Science Evaluation Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, the International Institute of Administrative Sciences, Harvard University, University of Chicago, Peking University, and Renmin University of China. Professor Kuiling DING, the President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, congratulated the School on its twentieth anniversary, expressing gratitude to leaders at all levels and friends from all sectors who have supported the development of the university and the school, and extended sincere greetings to the faculty, staff, and alumni at home and abroad.
Speeches were given by several distinguished guests including Professor Lan XUE, Co-Convener of the Public Administration Subject Evaluation Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and Dean of the Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University; Professor Jianxing YU, Secretary-General of the Higher Education Public Administration Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education and Party Secretary of Zhejiang Gongshang University; Professor Jinming YAN, Secretary-General of the National Public Management Professional Degree Graduate Education Steering Committee and Dean of the School of Public Administration at Renmin University of China; Professor Changhe SU, Secretary-General of the International Politics Research Professional Committee and Dean of the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University; and Professor David M. Van Slyke, Dean of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University in the United States.
Jiannan WU, the Dean of the School of International and Public Affairs, delivered a report themed “Twenty Years of Remarkable Progress, Forging Ahead to New Horizons.” He reviewed the school's development journey, introduced its substantial achievements in management and leadership, talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, and international cooperation, summarized experiences, and set forth new goals for the future.Subsequently, representatives from the faculty and students of the school delivered their speeches. The event also included the signing ceremony of strategic cooperation agreements with industry partners, and the unveiling of the "Center
for Smart City Governance" and the "Shanghai Jiao Tong University-Xuhui Industry High-Quality Development and Regional Governance Research Center." The celebration concluded with the presentation of the "Twenty Years School Service Contribution Award".
