SIPA Student Wins "Z Generation" Short Video Contest Top Prize

On December 27th 2023, the "Z Generation Embraces China" New Year's Fellowship event, organized by the Shanghai Municipal Committee's International Communication Office, was held successfully. The event saw participation from representatives of nine prestigious universities in Shanghai, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Tongji University, and East China Normal University, as well as nearly 200 international students. The award ceremony celebrated winners of the "Z Generation Embraces China - Shanghai Stories" short video competition. Aleksandra Antonenko, an international student from the School of International and Public Affairs at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, clinched the first prize with her video "Love for Shanghai, Love for Coffee," and also shared her experiences as a student representative. Additionally, Shanghai Jiao Tong University was honored with the Best Organization Award.
Hailing from Russia, Aleksandra Antonenko developed a deep affection for Shanghai during her study at SJTU-SIPA. Her award-winning video explores Shanghai's vibrant coffee culture through visits to a variety of coffee shops, capturing the essence of the city's unique "coffee culture." Aleksandra commented, "For a coffee enthusiast like myself, Shanghai is an ideal destination." She appreciated the assortment of coffee shops on the Shanghai Jiao Tong University campus, which greatly enhanced her overseas study experience with their aromatic offerings. The creation of the video was not only a thrilling journey through Shanghai for her but also provided an opportunity to engage with and learn from students of diverse nationalities, fostering a deeper understanding of China and Shanghai through cultural exchange.
The "Z Generation Embraces China" initiative, spearheaded by the Shanghai Municipal Committee's International Communication Office, has been instrumental in organizing various themed short video projects, including "Spring Festival in Shanghai", "Shanghai Stories", and "Beautiful Shanghai." Shanghai Jiao Tong University has played an active role in these initiatives, encouraging participation from both Chinese and international students, and has won the top prize for two consecutive years. The winning short video from Shanghai Jiao Tong University is a part of the "Shanghai Stories" series, which attracted over 150 submissions from individuals and groups across more than 20 countries and regions. The series received substantial support from more than 15 leading universities across the country and over 30 organizations.
