2018 Global Cities Forum Successfully Held

On October 27th, the 2018 Global Cities Forum was held at China Financial Information Center. The Forum is a component of a series of thematic activities of “World Cities Day" and is themed “Global City, Sustainable Development".
This year’s forum is jointly hosted by the Development Research Center of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Shanghai Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Governance Commission, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, United Nations Human Settlements Programme as well as the World Bank. China Institute for Urban Governance and School of International and Public Affairs of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Shanghai World Urban Day Coordination Centre jointly organized the forum.
Guanghui SHI, vice mayor of Shanghai, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Also present were Sixian JIANG, Party Secretary of SJTU, Rong YANG from the UN Human Settlements Programme, Francis Ghesquiere from the World Bank and Brigitte Robinson-Seyrlehner, the consul general of Austria in Shanghai. The opening ceremony was hosted by Rong HUANG, deputy secretary general of Shanghai Municipal Government.
Nearly one hundred well-known scholars from over 10 countries and regions such as the US, UK, France, Canada, Singapore, Japan, Austria, Korea and Australia, as well as around 300 guests from domestic universities, government departments of the Yangtze River Delta, media, companies and social organizations participated in this year’s forum.
Five sub-forums were carried out simultaneously in the afternoon session, focusing on Ecological Civilization, Cultural Context of the City, Digital Governance, Cooperative Governance, and Best practices for Urban Governance respectively.
The Global Cities Forum aims to create a global stage for governments, academia and industries to discuss major issues and challenges during urbanization process, to encourages countries to exchange ideas and experience, and to advocate incentives for urban innovation and harmonious human development. The forum has increasingly become a well-known event among the “World Cities Day” thematic activities.
