Delegation from Harvard Ash Center Visits SIPA

On October 25th, Professor Anthony Saich, Director of the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard Kennedy School visited SIPA, together with Edward Cunningham, Director of Ash Center China Programs, Tim Glynn-Burke, Executive Director for Programs at Ash Center, Maureen Griffin, Ash Center's Executive Director for Operations, and Sarah Grucza, Communications Coordinator at the Ash Center. Dr. Jiang Wenning, SIPA Party Secretary, Prof. Liu Bangcheng, Vice Dean of SIPA, Prof. Zhong Yang, Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor and Visiting Professor of SIPA, and Ms. Lin He from the International Affairs Office of SIPA attended the meeting with the guests.
Dr. Jiang first welcomed the delegation from the Harvard Ash Center and briefly reviewed the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in the past few years. Professor Zhong expressed the hope to continue to maintain a good partnership with Harvard and further expand their areas of cooperation in the future. Professor Liu said that both sides can explore more opportunities and forms of cooperation in areas such as MPA training and case building. Prof. Saich spoke highly of the PhD students that SIPA has selected to study in Ash Center. The delegation proposed that the two sides could join forces on holding international conferences such as the Mayor’s Forum and Urban Governance Forum in the future.
After the meeting, the delegation from Ash Center had a free discussion session with some of the faculty members and graduate students of SIPA, and exchanged views on topics like Sino-US relations, urban governance, and philanthropy. Professor Saich said that Ash Center welcomes more excellent students of SJTU to Harvard for exchange.
SIPA and Harvard Ash Center signed a memorandum of cooperation in 2017. Up to now, SIPA has sent four doctoral students to Ash Center for one year visiting. Beside student mobility, several teachers of SIPA have been doing research in Harvard University.
