On the 7th March 2018, we were honored to have the director of Centre of Studies in International Relations and DevelopmentDr. Binoda Kumar Mishra, holding a seminar on the “NGOs development in India” during the lecturer class of Dr. YangpinLu“Chinese NGO-NPO Management and Studies”.

Dr. Binoda Kumar Mishra opened the seminar explaining how the concept of development in a country is correlated to the concept of security considered by him as the well-being of individuals who benefit of the “freedom from want”.

Dr. Mishra supported his theory by the citation of the Pakistani international development theoristMahbubUlHaqconcept of Human Security during the 1994 UNDP (United Nation Development Programme) statingthat the main objective of development is to create an enabling environment for people.

He suggested that in the case of India the NGOs played a significant role in this process of development adding that Indian society is more and more relying on the NGOs support comparing to the governmental organizations. Local and International NGOs in India played a crucial role in bringing natural disaster relief and mostly in support of the marginalized social groups dealing with women violence, child labor and abuse.

The “NGOs development in India” presentation was followed by an open panel discussion with Dr. Mishra in which our students had the chance to enrich their understanding on the NGOs management in India and their role in the society making a comparison with the Chinese NGOs system.
