The School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) organized and held the Fourth Public Administration Academic Conference in Shanghai Jiao Tong University from April 21st to April 22nd 2017. Shanghai Jiao Tong University is one of the national key comprehensive universities that gives great importance to social sciences, humanities, economics and business management in China. For more than half a century, SJTU has been an essential base for training civil servants and senior managers on administration and government management. The conference brought together academic scholars from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland China who have a focus on Public Policy and Public Affairs. The agenda and main topic of the conference was City Governance.

SIPA student volunteers played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the conference. They offered their skills and time to help everyone from registration to local support. In addition, we must stress that not only Chinese students but also international students actively participated in this task. Ahmet Esref, Desiree Nieto and Saba Qureshi provided great assistance during the conference, helping with photography and hosting the guests. Being a student volunteer is an excellent opportunity to meet, interact and network with leading academic researchers and practitioners. Such interactions often help enthusiastic students to gain work-related experience, shape their research direction, and increase interpersonal and communication skills that can help them in their future education and careers. Furthermore, this is also a great way to meet other students who share similar interests. SIPA is always looking for opportunities to get students more involved in extracurricular activities.
