Meet our CPE Students - Saba

2016/11/24 9:57:35

This week we have the pleasure to interview one of our current CPE students, Saba Qureshi from Pakistan. She is now on her second year of the Master’s program and currently doing thesis research.

- What made you decide to join SJTU?

- My parents and my teachers used to tell me that studying at my home country has limited opportunities, and advised me to study in China. I knew SJTU is a top university and Shanghai is a modern metropolitan city, without the pollution, crowds and cold of Beijing.

- Which was your favourite course and why?

- Intercultural Communication because I got to know how to properly communicate with people from many countries, from different backgrounds and cultures. It was a very interactive course and we did a group research project during which we learnt a lot on how to conduct survey research.

- Did you have any events or opportunities to learn outside the classroom?

- Yes, indeed. The professors took us to seminars and conferences in which we had the chance to make contact with international agencies. After a UN conference, we were invited to join the Chinese Ambassador to watch the Shanghai Bund musical! It was great both for career and culture enrichment.

- What would you tell students to expect from the program?

- International students should take these courses if they would like to learn in depth about politics and economy of China. In this program they will sure make a lot of good relations and connections. You need to work hard in this master, the materials are very insightful but there is a lot to take in. On top of that, being in China can be a great adventure; it's a very interesting place to live and there is a lot going on in this side of the globe right now.

- You just presented your thesis proposal, on the first round! How do you feel?

- It was good. But to be honest, I had to work really hard the whole summer in order to attend the first round. Right before defence, I felt really nervous and tense – I think it’s normal. On the other hand, the judges gave me insightful comments that will help me for the rest of my research.

-What are your plans after you graduate from this Master?

- I am planning to further my studies in this school and do a PhD in public management. I like researching; besides, my dream is to become a professor in the future.

Great! We always love to see students so enthusiastic about pursuing their academic careers. We wish Saba the best for her research!
