SIPA delegation Visits UN Agencies

To enhance global competence and help students gain a better understanding of the missions and responsibilities of international organizations, guiding them to actively engage in global governance, from January 9th to 10th, 2024, the School of International Affairs at Shanghai Jiao Tong University organized more than 20 students from the school and Model United Nations Association to visit UN agencies in Beijing for in-person learning and communication. The team visited the United Nations AIDS Program (UNAIDS) office and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office.
UNAIDS Office
On the afternoon of January 9th, the team paid a visit at the UNAIDS office.
Project Assistant Weng Huiling led the team members to visit the UNAIDS office and introduced the responsibilities of various functional offices.
Subsequently, there were passionate discussions on topics such as the development history of UNAIDS, public welfare services of communities, public awareness and education campaigns, international organization internships and employment. Strategy Information Consultant Guo Wei, Community Support Consultant Liu Jie, Communication and Global Advocacy Officer Wei Xiangnan, and Office Administrator Sun Yue attended the discussion. Team members gained a deeper understanding of the operation mechanism and job responsibilities of international organizations via discussion, as well as a clearer understanding of the work content of UNAIDS and how to promote AIDS-related work more effectively.
At the end of the activity, both sides jointly explored the prospects of inclusive society development under the theme of "prevention and health promotion of AIDS," gathering youth power for building a global community of health for all.
UNHCR Office
On the morning of January 10th, the team visited the UNHCR office for in-person communication and learning. Resident Representative Lu Peihe, Senior External Relations Officer Steven O'Brien, and Senior Protection Officer Kelly Koo warmly welcomed the team's visit and congratulated the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Model United Nations Association on winning the Special Mention Award at the 2022 Model United Nations Refugee Challenge (Global).
