On March 8, 2024, the Department of Public Economics and Social Policies at the School of International and Public Affairs, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, hosted its 40th academic Conference on the topic of "Climate Adaptation and Sustainable Development Goals." The conference featured presentations by Professor Lindsay Stinger from the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York, Dr. Jamie Carr, a postdoctoral researcher at the Leverhulme Centre for Anthropocene Biodiversity, and graduate student Shi Rui from the School of International and Public Affairs at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The event was chaired by Associate Professor Pan Haozhi from the School of International and Public Affairs, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Professor Lindsay Stinger presented on climate adaptation and government regulation. Drawing insights from research conducted on plateaus, arid areas, and islands, the presentation analyzed how climate-resilient development can be achieved, with case studies from Italy, Nigeria, and Papua New Guinea highlighting the importance of political and institutional environments, economic and financial conditions, as well as knowledge accessibility and technological capabilities. Dr. Jamie Carr delivered a captivating speech on policy implications for sustainable development goals. Shi Rui introduced the role of nature-based solutions (NbS) in achieving urban carbon neutrality. The study evaluated the indirect impact of NbS as a human intervention method in reducing carbon emissions, and estimated the significance of achieving urban carbon neutrality goals.

Following the presentations, attendees engaged in heated discussions with the presenters regarding the scope and criteria for case selection, the number of literatures used in the meta-analysis, mapping methods, and other related issues.
