Recently, to broaden students' horizons and consolidate practical knowledge, Assistant Professors Xiang Chen and Yifan Chen from the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, along with international master’s students, paid an in-person visit to the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange (SEEE). During the visit, the faculty and students discussed the history and development of China's carbon market, environmental energy trading mechanisms, and addressed students' own questions.
As one of the first regional carbon trading pilot institutions, the SEEE is responsible for promoting carbon trading, driving innovation in green and low-carbon technologies, and facilitating energy conservation and emission reduction. The delegation first listened to a presentation by Lu Bingqing, Deputy General Manager of the SEEE. Lu provided a professional explanation of the SEEE’s operating model, carbon market trading rules, and the current development of China’s carbon trading market. Lu also introduced the active role of the SEEE in carbon pricing, incentivizing carbon reduction, and promoting the green transformation. The faculty and students also engaged in in-depth discussions with Lu and other officials on the prospects of the national carbon market, policy directions, and international cooperation in carbon trading.
This visit not only deepened the faculty and students' understanding of the carbon market but also provided a platform for students to interact with industry experts. SIPA has always emphasized the cultivation of students' practical abilities and sense of social responsibility. In the future, the School will continue to strengthen cooperation with industry institutions to cultivate international, professional, and rigorous talent, thereby enhancing the School's international influence and contributing to China's green and low-carbon development.
