Academic performance:

COURSES AND DISSERTATION:

Finished all my Ph.D. courses achieving great results, but more importantly while genuinely enjoying them. Wrote and successfully defended my Ph.D. 

proposal early 2015 and made substantial progress with writing my doctoral thesis and now I’m close to starting the review process and planning to obtain 

my PhD by mid-2016.

While at Jiaoda I have published several articles including the following 2 SSCI ranked articles:

As well as the following editor reviewed article:

• Keukeleire, Stephan, and Bas Hooijmaaijers. "EU, India and the Multilateralism Debate.". The Diplomatist July edition (2014).

All these articles combined meant great exposure both for me as well as for SJTU!

 

PARTICIPATED IN SEVERAL HIGH LEVEL CONFERENCES INCLUDING:

• Chinese Government Scholarship Forum, held on 13 December 2013 at Fudan University

• Asia FTA Symposium, held on 14 December 2013 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University
• The Political Economy of China’s Maritime Silk Road Initiative and South Asia, held on 21-22 November 2015 at East China Normal University

 

LECTURES THAT I GAVE:

In the framework of my supervisor Prof. Blanchard’s course on Chinese Foreign Policy I gave several guest lectures, including on:

• The BRICS and Other Emerging Power Alliances and Multilateral Organizations in the Asia-Pacific and the Global South with a particular focus on China
• China’s rise in Africa and the consequences for EU foreign policy

I was also invited by SISU to give a guest lecture on: 

• The BRICS and Other Emerging Power Alliances and Multilateral Organizations in the Asia-Pacific and the Global South: Challenges for the European Union and Its View on Multilateralism

 

I also assisted my supervisor Prof. Blanchard with his courses on Chinese Foreign Policy, Multinational Corporations in China and the 

Political Economy of Chinese Outward Investment, including grading and providing feedback to the students, something that was highly 

appreciated by the students and the Professor.   

 

Cultural and extracurricular Activities:

Acknowledging the great cultural and historical richness of China, I took the opportunity to travel across this great country. Since I arrived in

Shanghai in September 2013 I visited Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Beijing, Xi’an, Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Shangrila, Guilin, Yangshuo,

 Longsheng, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Macao, Lanzhou, Zhangye and Jiayuguan. 

This led to a better understanding and even greater appreciation of the country; it’s great diversity and cultural and historical richness.   

I’m also a frequent visitor of the Hopkins China Forum and the Young China Watchers. The Hopkins China Forum is an alumni-sponsored lecture series bringing scholarly ideas about China and the world to a wider professional audience.

Besides that over the past years I have attended more than a dozen guest lectures offered by SJTU. 

I’m also a frequent attendee of the Leuven University Shanghai Chapter alumni meetings here in Shanghai. 

 

Volunteer Experience:

• At the moment I’m still affiliated with Leuven University, Belgium as a Free Research Associate, highlighting the importance of the partnership

 between these two universities. 

• Engaging with my Chinese language partner to improve my Chinese language skills and to improve her English language skills as well as 

to promote cultural understanding.

• Helping students with their thesis writing skills and with their presentation skills to improve their studies as well as their professional skills.  

 

HONORS AND AWARDS:

The SSCI ranked article that I co-authored on The BRICS and Other Emerging Power Alliances and Multilateral Organizations in the Asia-Pacific and the Global South: Challenges for the European Union and Its View on Multilateralism was recommended by the library of the European

Commission as one of the five must-read articles for the month October 2014.
