Shanghai Jiao Tong University Honors Carrie Lam with Honorary Doctorate

On June 23, Shanghai Jiao Tong University awarded Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the fifth Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), an honorary doctorate degree. The ceremony was held at the School of International and Public Affairs at the Xuhui campus.
Dr. Lam's husband, Dr. Lam Siu-bo, along with notable attendees like Dr. Yang Yong-man, Chairman of Hong Kong He Fu Row Ltd., Cao Qidong, Chairman of Ningbo Yongxin Optics Co. Ltd. and his wife Yuan Liping, Yao Zuhui, the Chairman of the Lingnan University Council and the 14th National People's Congress deputy, Qiu Haibin, President of the Hong Kong Zhoushan Fellow Association, as well as Dr. Ding Kuiling, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and other dignitaries from various sectors of Shanghai and the university participated in the event. The ceremony was presided over by Vice President Zhang Zhaoguo.
In his speech, President Ding Kuiling highly praised Mrs. Carrie Lam for her contributions to the sovereignty, security, development interests of the nation, and the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. He emphasized that the honorary doctorate not only recognized her achievements but also served as an inspiration to the university's faculty and students to strive forward and contribute to the nation's strength and the rejuvenation of the Chinese people.
The ceremony featured Mrs. Lam receiving her degree and certificate from President Ding Kuiling. In her speech, Mrs. Lam expressed deep honor and gratitude for receiving the honorary degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She highlighted the significance of the award not only as a personal achievement but as a symbol of the robust interactions and achievements between Shanghai and Hong Kong, particularly in the educational sector. She hoped for wider and deeper cooperation between the two regions, contributing to the nation's development and the well-being of its people. She also thanked her family for their unwavering support.
Following the ceremony, Mrs. Lam delivered an enlightening lecture titled "The Political System and Public Administration of Hong Kong Under 'One Country, Two Systems'". She vividly reviewed the development of Hong Kong, discussed the constitutional order and political system, and the ongoing efforts to uphold and refine 'One Country, Two Systems'. She emphasized the successful implementation of this principle over the past 27 years, highlighting significant achievements in national security, electoral reforms, and the integration of Hong Kong into China's overall development strategy.
After her report, Mrs. Lam, along with the guests and students present, took part in a photo session and extended an invitation for everyone to experience the beauty of Hong Kong in person.
