2020/3/24 16:28:14

Dear international students who are out of China,

The coronavirus outbreak has severely affected our studies and daily lives. Recently we have seen strict measures being imposed to control spread of the virus within China, and good news is that the situation is getting better every day. According to the overall arrangements of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) has taken active measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 on campus. Meanwhile, the epidemic situation in some countries and regions is not optimistic. By the 10th of March, 103 countries have reported confirmed cases. To better cope with this emergency, SIPA calls upon all our international students to keep optimistic, calm and work together to fight against the virus. In order to prevent and control the new coronavirus infection and protect every faculty and student, SIPA would like to remind you of the following matters:

1.SJTU has announced the postponement of the commencement date of the spring semester of 2020. Please pay close attention to updates on our website and WeChat. All students are strongly recommended NOT to return to Shanghai or SJTU in advance. SJTU has also postponed the opening date of students’ dormitory. SIPA international students’ personal situation survey has been released in our WeChat group every day, which is compulsory for all students to report in order to help us to have update information. If, under special circumstances, you have to come back to China before the commencement date of the spring semester, you are strongly suggested to inform our faculty in advance. Meanwhile, please strictly observe and cooperate the instructions for entry inspection and quarantine and medical isolation and observation issued by relevant departments of the Chinese government.

2.Please carefully read the instructions or FAQs on prevention and control of the outbreak and take necessary measures, so as to secure your personal safety and health. Please go to the Health Services nearby immediately in case suspicious symptoms are found to be related to pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus and at the same time notify our school faculty. Such symptoms usually include fever, cough, chest distress, dyspnea, mildly poor appetite, feebleness, mild lethargy, nausea, diarrhea, headache, palpitation, conjunctivitis, mildly sore limb or back muscles.

3.Teaching activities of the spring semester have been carried out via online teaching platform since March 2. Upon adequate preparation by all SIPA faculties since beginning of Feb., the online teaching goes well. It is appreciated that our international students can overcome difficulties such as time difference or bad Internet, and actively devotes to your research and courses. If you have any problems, feel free to contact our faculty via email or Wechat, and we will try to help.

Faced with the coronavirus, we would like to call all SIPA faculty and students to continue to work together and get through tough times. Please take care, keep safe and all SIPA faculties are looking forward to seeing you on the beautiful campus in new semester!
