SIPA BAND LIVE IN CONCERT

The School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) is renowned for its work in educating the politically engaged and talented youth of tomorrow, as well as doing crucial research in various fields of the international society. A lessor known fact, however, is that SIPA also functions as a platform, through which cultural events emerge from our international students’ own initiatives.
Monday night, December 17th, our international students took their festive spirits outside the University, as they performed a show at the Shanghai Chair Club Live House. The SIPA band, Peven and the Laowai, consists of members from a wide array of cultural backgrounds and countries. Russia, Philippines, Pakistan, Afghanistan, The Netherlands, The United States of America and Denmark, are all represented in the current constellation of SIPA’s very own house orchestra. The band is open for any interested SIPA students to join.
The audience clapped and singed along, as the SIPA band entered the stage to perform. Music, it seems, is indeed borderless, and can bring anyone together, regardless of nationality, which is a core value of the SIPA mentality.
Peven and The Laowai was formed in preparation for the 15th anniversary of SIPA, where they performed a blend of Chinese classic songs, in the Wen Zhi hall at Xuhui campus. The band will perform at the coming SIPA International Student Union’s Christmas event, on December 19th.
