This course is designed to provide an introduction to major concepts in comparative politics, as well as to familiarize you with the basic tools of comparative analysis. During our time together we will read a number of foundational works, as well as contemporary scholarship. We will also focus on both theory and empirical case studies from around the globe as we survey and address some of the most pressing political questions: what explains the formation of modern state? What are the impact of state-building? how do economic factors influence political development? What is the difference between presidential and parliamentary system?
