Bio: Sven Bernhard Gareis became German deputy dean at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in May 2011.  Prior to this assignment he was deputy head of the faculty of humanities and social sciences at the Fuehrungsakademie der Bundeswehr (German Armed Forcers General Staff College) in Hamburg for five years. Since 2007 he has been teaching as a professor of political science at the Westfaelische Wilhelms-Universitaet in Muenster/North Rhine-Westphalia. As a visiting professor he taught at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at the Tamkang University in Taipei/Taiwan. He holds a Diploma (master's degree) and a Dr. phil. (Ph.D.) in social sciences from the Universitaet der Bundeswehr in Munich. From 2000 to 2006 Dr. Gareis was research director at the Bundeswehr Institute of Social Sciences in Strausberg where he coordinated the institute's research activities on multinational military cooperation in Europe.  Between 1994 and 2000 he was appointed to the Academy of Information and Communication as a senior research fellow and lecturer for German and international security policy.
